A friend is thinking of putting a 350 Ramjet Crate engine in his `63. Will it fit? He would like info re Hood clearance, etc. If it will where would a good source to buy one be?

350 crate engine(assume you mean a chevy 350 ci) will bolt right in. A midyear small block alum intake will clear the hood just fine. There are several different 350 crate engines with varying horsepower and varying prices your friend can choose from . Apple Chevy in central Penna usually has fair prices . they ad in Hot rod, Chevy high perform mag etc. regards, mike- Top

Re: 350 Ram jet into a `63
Gary, I've seen a RamJet installed in a 66. The owner told me that he had to cut out a small section of the inner bracing in order to clear the throttle linkage, The throttle linkage is at the front of the plenum on the right hand side. He had tried the setup with a big block hood and everything fit fine. Like me, he prefered the look of the SB hood and was willing to do a little t******* to make it work. Big block hoods look a little out of place on 63's, but if the other dimensions are the same as the 66, the SB hood probably can be made to fit ok.
The RamJet plenum is about close to an inch taller than the plenum or the Rochester FI's. There have been a lot of questions on another forum concerning whether the RamJet will fit under a C1 hood, and apparently it's real close, in most cases requiring some adjustment of the motor mounts and/or t******* of the hood inner bracing.- Top

Gary-----
I've HEARD that the 350 Ram Jet will fit under a 63-67 Corvette hood, but I've never confirmed it. It just "seems" to me that it would be too high but, perhaps, not.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
